Baffled!

I have had my fish in a 200l tank for two weeks! I moved them and the media from my cycled 50l... however i now am getting no readings at all for ammonia, nitrite or nitrate and have only done one small water change to boost oxygen levels! It is a planted tank with shrimp, gourami, one male betta, platy and tetra in there... If anyone could tell me why im not getting readings on my api testing kit id be really grateful... im just so confused! Thanks x

Welcome to TPT.

Are you using any fertilizers?

Bigger tank, plants and cycled filter -> no ammonia or nitrite
Plants and no Firtilizers -> no nitrate

Take a water sample along with your test kit to your local fish store and have them test with their test kits. If they test and get the same readings then you need to dose more ferts. If there’s differences have them run tests using your test kit and see what the results are. If there’s still differences then something could be wrong with your testing solutions or procedures.

No ammonia and nitrite makes sense, the no nitrate could be due to using the test kit improperly. To ask the age old question, are you shaking the #2 nitrate bottle vigorously for thirty seconds before adding the drops to the test tube?

My algae is the only plant that pearls.
