Help with Flourish Nitrogen
I recently noticed my nitrates are always rock bottom and I assume are the main reason my plants arent doing very well. So I picked up a bottle of Flourish Nitrogen and the instructions are very confusing to me. So please forgive me for my ignorance and lack of understanding on this.
First concern is the lack of clear definition of the ammonium/nitrates radio. The only hint on the bottle is "one-half of the nitrogen in Flourish Nitrogen is from nitrate" which leads me to believe falsely (i hope) that the other 1/2 is pure ammonium. So wouldnt that mean if i add the dose to raise my nitrates from 0 to 20pmm that ammonium would fly off the test sheet up to 20ppm as well if it is "one-half"? And wont that ammonium convert to a deadly nitrite spike after? I must have that wrongly understood. It says the ammonium is "complexed" but does that just mean its ammonium and not ammonia? Also their online calculator mentions "Considerations: If using a “nitrate equivalent” value for Current and Desired Nitrogen levels, divide the result by 5." While i understand how that effects the math. I'm unsure what it means.
I thank whomever tries to help me with my mixed up logic on this one. Having thought my math was correct I added a half capful to my 10 gal tank expecting the nitrates to at least go up 15ppm, it did not go up at all from what im seeing. I'm about to test total ammonia to ensure its not sky high just to be safe.
