How to dose Nitrate (KN03)

I have a 75g tank and my nitrates are reading zero. I have a lot of stem plants that keep sucking it up and my other plants are suffering. I just purchased dry KNO3. I don’t know how I should mix this to raise my nitrates to 5.0ppm.

Pick a good nutrient calculator and learn how to use it (Zorfox or Rotalabutterfly work well). It will help you a lot in the long run.

It takes two seconds to get the following information..................................

To raise NO3 5.0 ppm in your 75 gallon tank you will need to add 2.314593914 gm of KNO3.

2.314593914 gm is approximately 1/2 teaspoons(s)

K 3.152747432
N 1.129455405
NO3 5

You really should get some KH2PO4 and some CSM+B at the very least. I use at least 4X more KH2PO4 than KNO3.

Hey I was gonna get to that!

Was also going to add, 5 ppm Nitrate in the water column would starve most tanks.

Gotta take one step at a time!

As for your subject line "How to dose Nitrate" you can just measure it directly into the tank. I dump all my macros and micros dry right into the water. How sure are you of the accuracy of your nitrate test results?
