RO water tank?

Hi all! How good an idea is it to use reconstituted RO water in a freshwater tank? Would it make algae less of an issue like it does for saltwater? I was thinking of a 2.5 gallon tank with pygmy sunfishes and using a crystal red shrimp buffer. Thanks!

The only algae I see it helping with would be diatoms. Every other algae is happy feeding off excessive lighting, imbalanced nutrients and organic matter... which will end up in the water column regardless. R/O only tanks are best suited for soft water fish species and certain shrimps.
