Lightbulb Excel Water Column Life

I keep reading Excel gasses off within 24 hours, so if this is true than why is the "water change dose" much higher than the daily dose? I should be able to dose the water change level of Excel every 24 hours in this sense.

Thoughts?

It doesn't off gas, per se, but degrades in the water column.

For the 'water change dose' I have never found it necessary, and have always just used the daily dose.

I believe they recommend you dose more just because you do a large water change

I believe the primary purpose of the large dose agree water change is for the algaecidal effects. I almost always do maintenance, then water change, then dose glut to hopefully weaken or kill algae that has been disturbed or whatever during maintenance/water change.

Excel feeds algae when the lights are on, not combat it. It is only consumed when photosynthesis is occurring, a blackout on maintenance day should be just as effective. I always dose within 1 hour of the light turning on, and if I have a BBA outbreak then I dose it right after the lights go out.

It would make sense though to dose it in attempt at combating maintenance disturbance.
