0 Ammonia 1ppm Nitrite 20ppm Nitrate

My cycle is weird , I dosed 2ppm pure ammonia from Dr Timís next day I checked there was 0.25 ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrates , 1 week later itís 0 ammonia 1ppm Nitrites 20ppm Nitrates , I checked everyday and Nitrates showed up before nitrites.

Anyway do I need to keep dosing ammonia? I just dosed it for 2 days but now itís 0 but I have Nitrites so do I dose ammonia or no?

The math doesn't really add up:
1. What kind of substrate are you using?
2. How much total ammonia have you dosed?
3. Are there plants or animals in your aquarium?

.25 ammonia and 0 nitrites is possible if the bacteria that does the nitrite -> nitrate conversion has a leg up. This happened in my new tank recently. The ammonia eating bacteria slowed down somewhat as the nitrite converting bacteria finally took a strong hold. Can't explain why, but it finally cycled and that's all that I cared about.

You're very close to being done. Keep dosing ammonia at 2-3ppm until both ammonia and nitrite zero out in 24 hours. Dose ammonia daily to maintain it at 2-3ppm until the cycle is complete. Watch nitrates, I'd keep them at or below 20ppm. Water changes and then dosing ammonia will be necessary.

If you look at Dr Tims video he says to dose 2ppm ammonia which is 1drop ammonia per gallon , and not to dose until you READ 2ppm on your test kit? And if I dose now , wonít that keep building up nitrite?

Iím using Tropica powder soil no fish no plants

If you dosed twice and did 2 ppm ammonia each time then you'd have 4 ppm nitrogen compounds in the system. If 100% of the ammonia gets converted to nitrites --> nitrates then you'd have 4 ppm nitrates. That can be different however if your substrate is leeching ammonia into the water, animals add ammonia to the water, or plants pull out ammonia/nitrates from the water.

Also I suspect that that the ammonia is a bit of a sham. According to their website the bottle has 50 mg/L of total ammonia which is only 50 ppm in the entire bottle. The bottle is 2 oz so about 60 ml. To get 2 ppm you need to dilute the bottle by 25x which only comes out to 1.5L which isn't even enough to treat one gallon of water.

Do I dose ammonia or just let the nitrites 1ppm concert ? I have 0 ammonia now and no I used the same ammonia on my reef tank and when I dose 20 drops in my 20 gallon I got about 1-2ppm ammonia when I tested 6 hours later and the ammonia they use now is abit different mine is from last year.

Tropica soil has ammonia too I thought?
I'd just wait for things to zero out and go get you some fish!

My soil hasnít released any ammonia
