MgSO4 and CaSO4 dosing help.

Hello. i just recently got in my MgSO4 and CaSO4 and was wondering if someone could help me with the dosing. I could not find much online except ratios. I found that best ratio was 3:1. Does anyone know how much i should dose in my 55 gallon tank when i change 25 gallons of water and how much to raise the GH per 3 degrees or so? I am using RO-DI water. Thanks for any help .

You can use this Rotala Butterfly | Planted Aquarium Nutrient Dosing Calculator to calculate the result of dosing either or both of those chemicals. Use the "Result of My Dose" setting.

Perfect timing! Am I correct in assuming Ca and Mg should be dosed on the same days as Kno3 and other macros while Fe should he dosed along with CSM+B??

Thank you for the info. Is 4:1 ratio the best? Also, i do not have a gram scale, is there anyway i can convert these to teaspoon or tablespoon measurements?

Thanks! i just tried rotalabutterfly but for CaSO4 and MgSO4 it gives me options of either CaSO4.1/2H20 or CaSO4.2H20 and i do not know what one i have, its from Green leaf aquariums. also for MgSO4 i am given MGSO4.7H20 and i am not sure if this is the same. I thought i would check here before i dosed.

If you use the Rotala Butterfly site you will be able to figure out how many tsp you need for each - especially given the info Edward provided.
As for the ratio, 3:1 to 4:1 is the recommend range. In my tank the 3:1 works best. Your results may vary.

Oh thanks, do you happen to know which caSO4 I would have from GLA? .1/2H20 or .2H20?

I think you are making this too complicated.

With the GLA ferts you have, the following will get you 4 dGH at 3:1 ratio.

But honestly, if you were at 5 or 6 dGH or a 4:1 ratio, there are at least 10 other things that are more important. Don't need to be too exact with GH, just have enough.

2 1/4 tsp CaSO4 provides.....

Ca 21.440723001
dGH 3
S 17.15450431

3/4 tsp MgSO4 provides......

Mg 4.334188104
dGH 1
S 5.718167356

Hope that helps.

Search ebay website for "gram scale 0.01" then sort: "Price+Shipping: lowest first".

+1

GLA uses CaSO4.2H2O, 6.1 grams is about 2 teaspoons.
MgSO4.7H2O, what GLA uses, 3.6 grams is about 3/4 teaspoon.

Dose that with each water change.
