Kh2po4

Ok ok I fell for the pmdd premix too ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?. But now I know I need to dose kh2po4 but don't know how so I got a few questions

1. How do I mix it how much kh2po4 for 500ml of water?

2. Do I use distilled or rodi water?

3. Once I mix it up how long does the mixture last for (shelf life)?

4. How do I dose it for a 75 gallon aquarium? Meaning is it 1ml daily (just an example)

Hey welcome to the forum. It depends on what your target is. If say you want about 4ppm PO4 every week, add this 3 times per week:

1.Measure 35g KH2PO4.
2.Add to measuring container
3.Add distilled/ro/rodi water until the 500ml mark is reached.
4.Shake well and shake some more after a little while

One dose of 10mL will add to your 300L (75g) aquarium ~ 1.3 mg/L PO4 and 0.4 mg/L K

I have 1 year old bottles that are still good. If you see precipitate that does not dissolve when the water is warm or fuzzy things the bottle is contaminated. This means that some PO4 was taken out of the solution and reacted with something or used by bacteria. Such bottle might still work but you get some indeterminate degree of variation.

To avoid bacterial growth you can boil the water and leave it to cool a little before mixing the solution. It also helps dissolve things faster. Add some Seachem Excel or Easy Carbo to the solution. Keeping then in cold dark place also helps.

Wow you broke it da bluck down thanks I'll mix it up just how you said but dose 5ml 3x a week 2ppm (just a starting point) now what about water changes if I miss a week will the kh2po4 keep going up or what probably a dumb question but I'd rather come off as dumb than kill fish and plants

That is a good concern to have. It will take a lot of dosing to reach toxic levels for fish. Let's say I know somebody... who mixed the salts and added KH2PO4 instead of KNO3 for I would say around 10x the normal dose. He did change the water afterwards but nothing was lost.

But, being a responsible aquarium fish keeper involves water changes. If you do 50% water change every week your water will not have more than 2x the amount dosed per week. This is just math. The level you consider too high is up to you.

I suggest reading this article to start with. It is pretty comprehensive and a good read over the weekend, taking a peak at the aquarium meanwhile https://barrreport.com/threads/the-e...-test-kits.52/
