PH test strips

I bought a 5.5-9 ph range test paper pack of 80 from online and like all regular test strips they are yellow, but I think I have a hard time reading them. The colors range from a yellow greenish to a indigo blue at 9 ph. when testing my tanks it is hard to get an accurate measurement and I find myself guessing cause the strip itself is yellow. would you measure just the liquid on the strip alone? or do you just take the reading just as it is on the strip into account?

my latest reading is a blue liquid ( I would say a ph9 color liquid ) and maybe an 7.5 if I were to look at the strip with the liquid together.

I think it depends on the test strips, but generally, I used to put just enough water to wet the litmus paper.

That being said, pH test strips (and any kind of test strip) are notoriously inaccurate and prone to poor storage conditions. A liquid reagent test kit is a much better alternative
