Using both API Co2 Booster & Seachem Excel

Hi All,

I have some tanks with diffused Co2 and some without, they are all doing OK (I'm always looking to improve my tanks, I'm far from what I would consider, "dialed in". For instance, my main challenge has been GDA, but I'm working on that.

Right now though I'm wondering if using both "API Co2 booster" and Seachem Excel is overdosing on the carbon front, although the two products do differ. I should also add that I am using the Seachem Florish products with the exception of the Alkaline buffer as I do not require it. I also use and RO water and tap water to balance my GH & KH.

Thanks,

DD

Recipe for a quarantine tank: 5-15gal aquarium, no substrate, a heater that can heat the tank to 86F, "lights should be turned off", one - two mesh bags of biological medium, two small sponge filters, an air pump running into the tank powering the sponge filter. Lid is optional but you should be able to cover most of the tank to prevent fish from jumping out.

Hi DigityDog70,

First they differ in that Excel is 1.5% glutaraldehyde and API CO2 Booster is 1.6% glutaraldehyde....otherwise the same.

My experience has been that overdosing glutaraldehyde (i.e. 2X recommended) on an extended basis actually inhibited the growth of several of my plant species. Now, unless dealing with BBA, I dose the regular 'Initial Dose' and the Daily Dose 2 - 3 times a week.
