How much should i be dosing?

Ok so i have some EI and PPS Pro coming tommorow and am unsure how much i should dose in my odd setup. I want to do maybe a full month or so of pps before i go full EI Levels of fertilization. Figure that big of a change may cause some water balance issues.

Ok here is why i am asking what i should dose and not simply reading the directions and following suit. I have a 120 gallon south american cichlid tank with sand substrate. This tank has no plants but once my moss gets going good i will be adding mossed over wood to that tank. Now this tank overflows to the sump which has a few small tough plants, moss balls, and lucky bamboo sticking out of the water. That tank has been running for 6-8 months with a pretty descent bio load.
Now i have setup a new 110 gallon planted tank that goes to this same sump. Kinda using fish tank to feed plant tank and plant tank to clean fish tank in the most basic of definitions. So should i be dosing for 270 gallons (total water in system) or should i cut this back a bit. I know it will be going through the entire water column but i also dont want to be just throwing fertd to the wind.

Dose for the total water in the system. The reason is simple: The directions for dosing are to reach a certain concentration. Concentration (ppm of fert) = Mass(of fert) X Volume (total amount of water) So even though your sump adds volume that doesn't have plants, that doesn't matter. Your aiming to achieve a certain concentration in the water, regardless of what part of the system that water is currently in.

With that being said, you might still want to adjust your target concentrations from EI/PPS based on how planted your tank is. If it is barely planted aim for less than what EI says for example. This can easily be done using the rotala butterfly fert calculator. https://rotalabutterfly.com/
