PH correct in 3 test solutions and 2.6 in in tank
Here is one for the books. I have been having a bit of a problem with algae and the last thing i did was went through and did a huge pruning of all the worst plants and uprooted and tossed alot as well. I also, cleaned out my huge canister filter (DIY 5g bucket) and replace only the filter pads and did NOT touch the lava rock or bio spools and balls. I also re-plumbed the circuit to include a eshopps overflow box to get rid of protein skin on the surface (had been there about 1-2wks) and take the undergravel filter i had in the circuit out as well. I left the filter plates in place. I stirred up a decent bit of mulm from the BDBS substrate. A lot seemed to stay suspended in the water column. The filter was off for about 4hr while i got everything put back together. I have a drain pump that runs at 4am and sucks off 5g of water and then the ATO comes back on and re-fills the take to 100% and shortly thereafter the Fert cycle runs that doses PPS-Pro, NPK Micro, Baking Soda (~1/3 tsp) and label recommended dose of Equalibrium. Before all of this, the fert cycle was keeping the numbers is a nice tight cycle. The last thing is the Herbie drain for the filter was below the low point for the drain cycle, it broke siphon and was unable to restart before i came down. The ATO, for a couple of hours went back and forth pushing the water level above the overflow drain and then sucking air through the return drain. I do not know how much RODI water was put in the tank. My EC is still at about 350 uS which is where it has been running so it was too far off. i have tested it with a EC pen and it shows the same. I also added a small 100gal Purigen pre-packaged bag in the eshopps box. BTW the PH reads a solid 6.8 with API low range.
Sooooo.....is there something that can be happening chemically in the take to be creating a situation where it is sooooo off in the tank (or the filter box) and be dead on in all three test solutions?????
GH = 5
KH = 4-5
Nitrate 20-40 (more orange than redish)
