I can't get rid of tiny particles I rinsed a rag and wrapped it around the foam (aquaclear 300) and it helped but not enough there are still smaller particles. Can I use cotton balls from the dollar store?
:?: :?: a lot cheaper then filter floss

Do you know where they came from? Possibly, this could be green water unless you know the cause. There is a type of product that clumps up certain materials and allows the filter to catch them. I forget but there is a term for this "clumping up". Someone else should know the name, or you could search the posts.

They are called flocculents. If you read up on them at the kirb, they say they could potentially do harm to your fish's gills. However, they are available at most LFS, just look for cloudy water clearers, they all use the same basic principle.

it's from the new flourite that I didn't wash well enough .... I think
some finer filtration should do the trick
Using chemicals to solve problems (aside from fertilizer) is always frounded uppon on this forum so I try to avaiod the "clumper"

If it's from the flourite it'll settle out after a few days to a week.
