Help with RO water please!!

I plan on purchasing an RO unit and will be remineralizing with seachem equilibrium for gh and seachrm alkaline buffer for kh. I have ada aquasoil and I am aware it buffers down ph, kh, and gh quite a bit. I believe after buffering my RO water it will have a ph of about 6.5 or 7.0... I am scared that I will do my 50% weekly water change ( because I use EI ) and then aquasoil will lower my ph way too Much by the end of week and it will just be a constant cycle of aquaoil buffering my kh/gh/ph too much so when it's time for water change, the new water parameters will shock my fish/plants. Please help!

When you're using ADA aquasoil, kh buffering agents will have absolutely no effect until the substrate has been completely exhausted, so it's no use. As far as I know, its effects on gh are not very significant. I do not use anything to remineralize with either when using RO water, yet my pH sits around 6.4, so I wouldn't worry about the aquasoil lowering it too much.

I don't really know a whole lot about the chemistry behind it, but I do know that aquasoil is simply designed to keep the water soft.

How I feel about non-planted aquariums.
