Is CSM+B Enough Iron?

I dose Macro and Micro nutrients using GLA ferts. This contains CSM+B which consists of:

Total magnesium - water soluble chelated magnesium 1.5%

Copper -chelated 0.1%

Iron - chelated 7.0%

Manganese - chelated 2.0%

Molybdenum 0.06%

Zinc - chelated 0.40%

Boron 3.8%

EDTA - minimum content 65.4%

For the purpose of keeping red plants like AR Mini's, Ludwigia Sp, etc, will this amount of iron be sufficient? Will this amount of iron be enough to stave off iron deficiency?

Dosing: I dose according to the GLA recommended -- Alternating Macro's 3x, Micro's 2x, water change, repeat.

Thanks!

Typically, CSM+B has more than enough iron for our needs.

Hi Byronyk,

Welcome to TPT!

It has been determined that developing good 'red' coloration in plants is more the result of high light intensity (PAR) as opposed to iron content. However iron is certainly necessary for healthy plants. Tom Barr, who developed the Estimative Index (EI) method of fertilizing plants recommends maintaining iron in the range of 0.2ppm to 0.7ppm or higher; typically I dose to achieve about 0.5ppm of iron and then observe my plants for any signs of iron deficiency. If you provide me with your tank size I can provide you with the proper amount of CMS to dose for your tank.
