Metricide, I need verification please

I picked up some Metricide off Amazon and need to verify the ratio to mix. I saw a thread some time ago where they stated for a 500ml bottle it was 3 parts water and 2 parts metricide. I'll be using a mason jar which is roughly 1,000ml. This would put me at 600ml water and 400ml metricide right?

Just a noob

Hi Nlewis,

Metricide 14 or Metricide 28?

For Metricide 28 (2.5% glutaraldehyde):

3 parts Metricide 28 + 2 parts water = 5 parts Excel strength (1.5%) solution

Hi Nlewis,

Metricide 28 is 2.5% glutaraldehyde
Metricide 14 is 2.6% glutaraldehyde

use the same formula as above, just take two teaspoons of glut out and add two teaspoons of water before mixing (specifically 288 ml of Metricide 14 and 212 ml of water)

So in my case, using 1000ml jar. Take 4 teaspoons out and add 4 tsp of water.

Hi Nlewis,

For Metricide 14:

Three (3) 1000ml jars of Metricide - 2 teaspoons
plus
Two (2) 1000ml jars of Water + 2 teaspoons
equals
5000 ml of Excel strength solution

Don't forget....throw away the 'activator'!

You can easily calculate amounts to use using algebra.

M1V1 = M2V2 where:

M1 = initial concentration
V1 = volume of initial concentration to use
M2 = desired concentration
V2 = desired volume

So for example:

Metricide 14 is 2.6% glutaraldehyde (M1)
V1 is currently unknown
Desired final concentration is 1.5% (M2)
V2 is whatever final volume you want (say 1 litre)

(2.6%)V1 = (1.5%)(1L)

Solving for V1,
V1 = 0.5769 litres

Thus, you would add ~577 mL of Metricide 14, and top off to 1 litre with water.
