Gh Kh PH test

Having purchased a gh kh api test kit and ph also requires this question, when testing water do I test right out of the tap, well water, let it stand for 24 hours, which I plan to do with my aquarium water, and does it matter if it has aeration which I will do when 50/50 ro well water mix, have very hard water a lot of iron

Hi W.C.,

It's always good to know how my water tests out of the tap, I usually check mine once every few months.

Letting it stand for 24 hours will allow it to 'off gas' any excess CO2 or other gasses that could effect the readings; again do it every few months.

Aeration should have not effect after the water has set for 24 hours, but I would test my 50/50 mix and at least once a month and verify you are attaining the levels you want for your fish and plants. Tom Barr suggested targeting about [email protected] and said he doesn't really worry about the dKH as long as he has sufficient to the CO2 does not cause drastic PH swings. I try to target about [email protected] - 4.0 myself. There are iron test kits out there, I have one that I think I have used just once in 8 years.

I am pretty sure you should be able to test both GH and KH straight away.
