pH question

Hi, I'm a little confused with the results I get when I test my water.

Yesterday I tested the pH in my water straight out of the tap and it was the same as always: 7.5-8 (the colors for 7.5 & 8 are very similar)

Then I left a bucket of water to sit overnight and tested it today.
It tested out to be 7 pH.

I thought leaving it overnight would get rid of the excess CO2 thus making the pH rise but instead it decreased.
I measured the water to be tested with a syringe, added the reagent and set a timer. I followed all the instructions of the test kit.

I'm sure I'm missing out something and I was hoping you could explain this.

pH question

Leaving it out will do nothing and water will actually have a lower ph if the co2 concentration in your home is high. This is more commonly seen in a reef aquarium especially in the winter time.

Put an air stone in the water, this is called aging the water and off gases any co2 in the water column.

Ok thankyou, I thought having an airstone just made the process faster than leaving the water to sit for a while.
