Buying chems from pyrotechnic stores?

I have a bunch of left over KNO3 from my pyro days and I was wondering if it is suitable for dry dosing.. Here is a link to the place where I got them.

http://www.ihaveadotcom.com/cart/ind...roducts_id=269

Here is my setup, I just need to put it in my sig and be done with it...

I would say med tech...

Flourish dosing

Also, there are so many ferts out there, it is hard to tell what is essential, even after looking at the EI Charts. My bet is that http://www.greenleafaquariums.com/aq...rtilizers.html gives the best all around base for dosing going on the 40~60 regime, correct?

If you have any other suggestions on pre-made ferts please suggest them to me. It looks like just buying the ferts separately does not really save more money as opposed to the packages.

Yes, that KNO3 will work for dosing purposes.

KNO3 is a power oxidizer after all, it is not surprising some people use it for "alternative" purposes.

Also, does anyone know how long dosing http://www.greenleafaquariums.com/aq...rtilizers.html will last on a 55 gallon?

No spoon feeding here, but here is the necessary information for you to calculate how long it the fertilizers will last on your own.

Given that you purchase the following amounts from GLA:

* Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) - 1 Pound
* Mono Potassium Phosphate (KH2PO4) - 1 / 2 Pound
* Potassium Sulfate (K2SO4) - 1 Pound

And that EI dosing for a 55 gallon tank will fall between:

40-60 Gallon Aquariums
+/- 1/2 tsp KNO3 3x a week
+/- 1/8 tsp KH2PO4 3x a week
+/- 3/4 tsp GH booster once a week(water change only)
+/- 1/8 (10ml) Trace Elements 3x a week

And that the conversions from teaspoons to grams is:
KNO3 1 teaspoon = 5.2 grams
KH2PO4 1 teaspoon = 5.6 grams
CSM+B Trace elements 1 teaspoon = 4.3 grams

And that 1 lb = 454 grams

You should be able to figure out the rest.

I might have missed it in there somewhere during his nursing , but you will need to pickup trace from them also ( CSM+B 1 pound ).

Im dosing a 55 gal per the EI schedule. Going on to almost a year now on the same batch from GLA; although, it looks i may have to order more KNO3 within a month or so.
