question about flourish excel

i was on a website that sells plant packages. it recommended the use of a co2 system OR excel. my question is since i dont have co2 should i use excel? ive read on here in threads that people that have used it say it does nothing at all!

There are just a few plants that "need" an increase in the carbon content of the
tank water. Any plant will grow better however.
I find that it takes about double the recommended dose of Excel to be enough to
work well. Problem is that it's hard to notice the difference unless you stop using it.
In smaller tanks it's not that expensive to use. But daily use is the minimum that
gets results. Less expensive to get the generic form from Amazon. Either Metricide
14 or Metricide 28.
