good fertiliser

hello,

I bet this has been mentioned before, I had a quick look to see if I could see a existing thread but couldn't.

Well I'm going to start putting live plants in my tank, never been good with them. I have a 20 gallon tank with about 3wpg of lighting. but the tubes are split 50:50 white/blue. not sure if I should change one of them to a more natural light? any ideas?

I have just received a HC cuba in the post and waiting for some more plants to arrive. I am going to set up a pressurised co2 system as well, just waiting for the parts to turn up. But now iv read on here that you should also use ferts? I haven't got a clue on what ferts to get and would like some help plz. I was going to buy excel but there is no point if I'm getting co2 is there?

Also what's the best way to plant the HC? its come in a small plastic pot with fibre glass round the roots.

Thanks for any help.

Greenleaf's "Green Fertilizer Package" is the best starting point for buying fert's and it's cheap at $20.00 and will last allot longer than bottled store bought ferts.

No you wont need Excel with a good C02 setup, but you might want to add a bag of "Iron Chelate" to your fert order if you want to dose a bit extra Fe and it's not like it will go bad if you wait on using it right away.

how can plants not use it and algae will? its all photosynthesis. they peak at 420nm. 420-460 nm is what plants use to bulk up in size, and red is like 600-700 nm used for flowering/ reproducing. now as for k rating thats more of what the user likes to look at. i would say to look at the plants section and do some research and pick up how you want to grow it, everyone has diff ways and some are deff better than others. you can try a few ways of planting them then and see what works for you. also wpg is way outdated so its better to judge by lumens and par value of lights, theres just to many diff ones some are much more effecient than others. if ur not good with live plants yet u might want to try something easyer than hc till u get the hang of it.

Lol, its a bit late now, the HC is in my tank. Hopefully i will get my new lamps this week and the co2 will be here next week.

Just in the process of deciding on what ferts to buy.

Oh and i also think i wasnt good with live plants because the last tank i used was a 100l tank with only a 15w lamp.

In the mean time, keep your lights on a lower schedule, One bulb for just 4-5 hours a day.
