Hi everyone. Sorry for bringing up another question about dry fertilizers, but although I did my research on the net I'm still confused
What I have is:
a 5.5 gallon standard tank (16" x 8" x 10")
x2 10 watt colormax compact fluorescent bulbs just on top of the glass canopy
Eco-complete as substrate
GH 120 ppm
KH 120 ppm
My plants are (to my knowledge) not very demanding
Anubias nana & petit
Fissidens Fontanus moss
Intended live stock are 1 olive nerite snaile, 1 Betta Splendens and 5 Cherry Shrimp.
I'm using Excel as my CO2 source (while it lasts, after that I'll use a yeast recipe), and Flourish as my trace source.
I currently have a pound of KNO3 and KH2PO4. After reading a lot now I'm confused on how to dose all of these.
Seachem's products have dosing instructions, but although I added 2.5 ml of Excel, my drop checker is still blue after 2 hours.
Regarding the KNO3 and KH2PO4 how should I proceed? The packages come with instructions on how to prepare the solutions.
1 ml of the KNO3 solution will raise nitrates by 1mg/l in a 10 gallon tank. Also, after 5mg/l of nitrates have been added, potassium will raise by 3mg/l.
So if I add 5 ml of this solution, do I get 5mg/l of nitrates and 3mg/l of potassium in a 10 gallon tank? Do I get the same mg/l if I add the 5ml to my 5.5 gallon tank?
1 ml of KH2PO4 solution will raise phosphate by 0.54mg/l in a 10 gallon tank. Same question. If I add that 1 ml to my 5.5G, do I get the same 0.54mg/l of phosphate?
Do I dose 10ml of KNO3 solution twice a week to get 20 mg/l or should I dose 20ml after each water change? What about KH2PO4?
If I prepare 1 liter of each solution and don't use them all, do they go bad? Do I still need root tabs? Which would you recommend?
