Quality Test Kit?

Getting back into my planted 120 gal, been a few years...

What should I test for? If I recall, pH, Nitrates, not sure what else.

Who makes some quality, accurate test kits out there?

Thanks in advance

pH, nitrates, ammonia, and nitrite are the most common test kits. Most people also have kH and gH test kits. A phosphate test kit is helpful, but not absolutely required.

Then again, I have all these test kits, but rarely use them simply because there is no need after the tank is established...

Lamotte makes excellent test kits, but they are expensive, and most people agree they are overkill for our hobby. API is a good compromise.

If you come across a good iron test, let me know. The Red Sea one doesn't work.

I don't think there is a good, cheap iron test kit out there. In the end, most people don't even bother testing iron levels and instead watch their plants. Watching them is probably the best indicator of what iron levels are like in the aquarium.
