How do I raise nitrates?

Hi,
One of my tanks, a planted Eclipse 12 low-light aquarium, is testing zero for nitrates these days. It's also testing 0 for ammonia and nitrites (which is good).

All my plants were doing terrifically well, but recently, one of my plants has been going a little yellow at the edges. I don't know what it is, but it has long, broad leaves. It's not an anubia.

I'm wondering if this is due to the low nitrate. Shouldn't nitrates be at about 25?

How can I raise my nitrates to a level that is good for plants and still safe for the fish?

I add Seachem Flourish from time to time, but it doesn't have nitrates. It does have some iron.

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Buy some Seachem product that has nitrate or buy powder form fertilizers from one of the web sites that advertises here. Use a fertilizer calculator (there are a couple-free-do a google search) and there you have it.

I think aquariumfertilizer.com does ship to Canada. I believe that Rex Grigg and Orlando do not.

You could also try a hydroponics shop. Or do a search on the bcaquaria forum for some local sources.

Thanks, everyone!
I didn't realilze that fertilizers with nitrates in them were available. I will look a little harder for them at my online aquarium supplier.

I know Seachem makes a fertilizer with just nitrogen, and others that are just phosphorus, just potassium and one that is just iron. With each of these products you can fine tune just how much of each your plants need.

As mentioned, Seachem makes NPK separately, and those can be used.

However, buying the bulk chemical fertilizer (potassium nitrate) from an online store that will ship to Canada and/or locally from a hydroponics store is the cheaper and more economical way to go.

It sure is! But if the Seachem product is on the store shelf, and the other products are several days or longer in coming, you might want to get a bottle of the Seachem product. Then also you have a bottle to mix up the dry ferts in.
www.aquariumfertilizer.com ships pretty fast, but I am not sure how long to Canada.
