Dosing Seachem and would like to switch to dry..

Hi all,

Well, the subject explains it all. Dry ferts are so much cheaper; I hate spending $15 on one bottle of fertilizer that lasts 6 months.

Anyway, this is what I am currently dosing for Seachem and things seem to be going well:

Day 1 of 7:
50% water change
Trace - 6.25 ml
Comprehensive - 3.75 ml
Potassium - 26.25 ml
Iron - 3.75 ml
Nitrogen - 10 ml
1 tbsp of dissolved epsom salt for Magnesium (will continue this with dry ferts)

Day 3 of 7:
Trace - 6.25 ml
Iron - 3.75 ml

Day 5 of 7:
Trace - 6.25 ml
Comprehensive - 3.75 ml
Iron - 3.75 ml

Are there any tools I can use out there to convert this over to dry ferts? I'm still having problems after reading the stickies.

Thanks!

There are charts with the Estimative Index method.
One chart might say for tanks from 20-40 gallons, for example. If you have high light, CO2 you might use this for a 20 gallon tank. Low light, Excel or no carbon, use this much for a 40 gallon tank.

Try it, see how things go, then modify as needed.

I started off like that, then found that:
a) Big fish load added so much NO3 to most tanks that I did not need to dose so much.
b) Fish food also seemed to supply enough Ca and Mg, so I did not need to add Equilibrium, Epsom salt or other.
c) Potassium was still too low, so I added K2SO4.

Just switched to dry ferts today!
I was dosing the Seachem chart (had excellent results), but It's expensive (even more with 3 tanks)
My plan is to do EI for 40G, but dosing Iron 6 times a week(1/8 tsp) also K2SO4 3Xweek.
I'll post my results with some pics!
