Lighting recommendations

I am setting up a 90 gallon planted rainbowfish tank and am having a hard time choosing a light. I want medium to high light plants, but will not be injecting CO2. Maybe one day, but I know nothing about it yet! The tank is 24 inches tall. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ashmama,

Welcome to TPT!

A 90 gallon is a nice size tank but it does create some challenges, specifically getting sufficient light down to the substrate level. Also when we do 'high light' typically CO2 is used to avoid an algae farm. If you haven't read the 'stickies' at the beginning of the lighting sub-forum I would suggest starting there.

Thank you! I'm having a hard time finding the 'stickies'. Is there a link to that page you could help me with?

Are you on mobile? On my phone the stickies show up as a little yellow button on the right side of my screen.

$300 plus shipping you can get 2 "open box" AI prime fw's..
At least it came up "ok" in a shopping cart.

Note that this is an older model. New ones are.. AFAICT only marginally better.
Slightly stronger .. Dedicated"moonlight" Possibly updated optics, but ???

you'll still need mounts or diy hanging..
2 or 3 depends on tank structure.. i.e bracing..

55W each and narrower optics than typical 120 degrees..

@48" you "may" have a bit of light drop off on the sides (depends on mounting height) but gets better at depth

Want cheaper and more basic.. look at hort. t5's..

@jeffkrol. If I went with a 60" instead of 48", which is 26" deep instead of 24", would 2 AI Primes be sufficient or would most definitely need 3?

What is actual brand or L/W/H of this aquarium? Does it have center brace?

you would "want" 4..... What you need or can get away with is a bit of another story..

Each starts as a 18(15) X 18 area

You could shoot around the brace a bit..
48" tank w/ center brace.

Just an idea of coverage

another 48" tank..

note that the lights are hung fairly low in those images.
