DIY LED full spectrum strip light

I have two five gallon tetra brand tanks. I've been using the little white LED strip that came with the tanks, but I feel it is doing my pants no favors. While it looks nice, my plants aren't growing as much as I think they should be, even with Flourish, root tabs, and liquid CO2.

All of the lights I'm seeing either won't work for my tanks, are plain white, are rainbow color changing, or are white/blue. I'm thinking about getting a white/blue one, as it is the closest I can get.

If I were to wrap thin red plastic, or something like red washing tape around the white lights, would that work for a red light? Or is it a waste of time? Would my tanks be okay with just the white/blue light?
