Converting Reef to Planted ATI Question

Hello everyone. Converting my 200 gallon reef to a planted. I have an 60" ATI T5 light, has anyone used this over a planted or any ATI T5? If so, which bulb did you use?

Thanks

Okay. Two years later I finally built up the nerve to breakdown my reef. Looks like the Ge starcoat 6500 only goes up to 48". I see Giesemann SUPER FLORA comes in 60", anyone using this bulb? My tank is 26" tall. Thanks again.

We recommend the GIESEMANN T-5 / tropic to be used in conjunction with the GIESEMANN T-5 / super flora for Freshwater and planted aquariums.
whatever that's worth....

GE starcoat is a versatile "it works" bulb at a low price..

thanks for the replies!

If I'm lighting a26" tall tank before adding substrate will I have enough light for high light plants using the recommended bulbs? I can't seem to find much information on lighting larger tanks.

For such a large tank....you want it to succeed right off the bat.

PLEASE go online and buy a cheap PAR meter. Put your substrate in, fill with water, put your PAR meter on the substrate with lights on and take a measurement.

This is the most accurate way to tell the strength of your lights.

How many bulbs in your fixture?

I run 6 x T5HO over my 5' 120G. PAR at substrate right now is 127, bright enough to grow anything.

I could make the PAR higher or lower just by swapping out a bulb or two. The PAR of T5 bulbs vary quite a bit from manufacturers. Giesemann's are all PAR beasts.

And pay attention to color. It plays a large role in how the tank will appear to your eye. I did some testing on a few bulbs in the last few pages of my journal that might be of interest to you (link below).

I have a 6 bulb and 8 bulbs. The current fixture over the tank is the 6 bulb. I need to replace the ballast on the 8 Bulb. Thanks for the link I'll definitely read through it once I get my post count to the forums threshold of 10. @Greggz which bulbs are you currently running?

Thanks again!

Giesemann's at Bulk Reef Supply.

Powerveg I go to their site, and order from a local hydroponics retailer.

True Lumen I did a quick search and they look hard to find right now.

But there are many combinations that would work. You need to consider how much PAR you want to create, and what colors look pleasing to your eye.

There is no question that a good mix of colored light will change the way your eyes perceive the tank.

Sunblaster 6400k / KZ Fiji Purple/ KZ Fiji Purple / Giesemann Super Flora for me. I have an 8 bulb setup but only run 4 at once. The other 4 bulbs are the same but ATI purple plus instead of the Fiji purple's.

Interesting mix.

2 x Purple bulbs.

They look great over your tank.

Do you know if those KZ are extra high PAR like Gieseman?
