We have a number of carnivorous plants that live Up North in the peat bogs....I wonder how well I could keep a few here out of doors....

Well the Sarracenias and VFTs are dormant along with my cacti (see my Cacti thread for more info on that), and the Droseras and Nepenthes are growing like crazy. Even the Utricularia gramnifolia that I thought I had lost came back with a vengeance and has filled over half a pot in about 2 month's time.

Once it warms up here again, my plan is to take down the terrarium completely and move all of the CP's outside where they'll get natural sunlight instead of the artificial stuff they're getting now. Then once it cools down again, I'll set the tank back up and keep the non-dormant CP's in there. I have absolutely no doubt that the plants will do better under real sunlight than under fluorescent lighting.

So anyway, no pics at the moment. I'll try to get some sometime soon. I really can't wait for spring to get here

Haha, well any bugs I find either get thrown to the sundews or the Nepenthes right away. They get fed well on those little grain moths that show up everywhere. My parents think I'm crazy when I walk around the house with a pair of forceps hunting for CP food

Ha Ha too. I just found a fly on the window at work and threw it on the Cape Sundew here.

I should probably check this thing more often. Dude, that D. paradoxa is sick! If you ever get a baby plant from it, I'd love to do a trade or something.

will do. im going to try to propagate all these babies. i believe the paradoxa is by far the easiest to propagate (out of the sundews that i have now). i'll do some leaf pullings soon.

Sweet. Let me know how it goes. I could trade some D. adelae or U. gramnifolia if you don't have those two already.

As of now, there currently exsists no MSDS sheet for SuperThrive due to the fact that the product contains no "hazardous materials" as defined by OSHA.
Documentation can be found here:
http://www.primescapeproducts.com/do...IVE%20MSDS.pdf
The product dose not contain macro nutrients, and therefore has no NPK rating. It is primarily vitimans and hormones, and should be added with the usual dose of ferts. A link to the website follows:
www.superthrive.com
Here is a summary of how i applied the product containing no fish in a heavily planted 20g long tank. For substrate i use 2.5in of soil capped with a mixture of rock and sand.

Control: 1.5 ml of Seachem Flourish weekly.

First dose: 1 ml of flourish and .5ml of superthrive.
Little noticable difference.

Senond dose: 1 ml of flourish 1ml of superthrive
Accelerated plant growth. Accelerated algea growth.

Third dose: Same as second dose.
More plant growth. Algea remains the same

Fourth dose: 1 ml of flourish 1 ml of superthrive fowolled by another dose of .25 ml of flourish and .25 ml of superthrive 3 days later (about .5 weeks)
More plant growth. Some algea growth.

I added the final dose last night and above is my noted observations as of now. (approx. 26 hours after final dose)

An apple snail and 3 ghost shrimp seem to be have no noticible affects. I added both last night as well. Tomorrow i will add 2 to 3 oto's to see how they do. I believe if SuperThrive were to have any affect on inhabitants, it would first attack the snail or shrimp first as they are invert's and the product does contain small amounts of NAA, a substance listed as a pesticide by the EPA although the product it self is not a pesticide at all.

Will continue to update to let you know how the experiment goes. So far so good!

As for the rock i dont know what it is classified as. It is a fairly common rock here in Missouri. It lines a creek wall near my house in the Kansas City area. It is white, pretty brittle, and is very uneaven both the texture is smooth if that makes sense. I will have a friend who is currently studying geology try to identify it for me and I will let you know.

your CP's are awesome 8), I got a S. purpurea for xmas with my dad wanting me to stick it in with my emersed crypts I think its the northern variety (well hope ) and then I saw some other ones at a garden center here the one that I liked I'm guessing is a species of Sarracenia but had really skinny/tall pitchers with a white top with red veins but I had no money at the time might be able to go and get it tomorrow

Nick

Do you get cold weather in the winter where you live? (I know its summer now!!) The S. purpurea can easily take 0F or lower in the winter. It does need a cold winter rest. They do well in full sun outdoors in a tray of rainwater or distilled water.

The tall skinny pitchers you saw sound like a Sarracenia. There are plenty of hybrids around. I assume you have local growers of the CP and don't import them from another country, correct?

I'm so excited to see that there's people that are involved in both of my favorite hobbies. All you guys should join http://www.cpforum.world-of-carnivor.../yabb2/YaBB.pl The forum has really died down since the owner went through some hard times. Maybe you guys can bring it back to life. It's a great site for info and propagation as well. Stop of by and say hi. My screen name is plantkiller08, in case we ever cross paths you'll know who you're talking to.
