Default bromeliad question

i have a bromeliad that flowered last may. it still has the flower and grew 3 plantlets at its base. the plantlets are now almost as big is it, but have not yet opened up. anyone know why?

the ones i have take a long time for the plantlets to open up. the original will not flower again once its done. I usually cut the plantlets and replant them.

i know, the original mother plant dies (right?)

but aproximately how long does it take for the plantlets to open. btw, i just saw the flower start to brown (dry up), just one of the upper petals, but it could just be since i forgot to fill the cup up for a while and it dried out.

Yeah the original plant will die off. It can take over a year for the plantlets to flower. there is a good article here you can check out
