CO2 in Knoxville

I was hoping to have gotten my tank filled this week, but when I called the local place listed on Rex Grigg's site I was told that they only fill up tank between 4:30 and 5:00. They also let me know that the only person who fills tanks will be on vacation until next week.

Where do you guys get your tanks filled? I haven't tried calling a paintball place yet, I thought they would laugh at how much I wanted.

Just for reference, here is the place I found on Rex Grigg's site:

FYR*Fyter Sales & Service Co.
3301 Rudy ST
Knoxville TN 37921
(865) 523-1371

I go to Holston Gases and get my 5lb tank filled. The cost is around $10 but seems to vary a bit each time I go. I'm usually in and out in 10 minutes or less and they're always friendly and helpful.

Isn't that the place just off of Sevier Avenue near that old Pilot gas station? I have driven by a few times but had no idea there was actually a customer area, I just thought it was a commercial depot or something.

That would be it. It's downtown, close to Baptist Hospital.

Very cool! I never would have guessed they had a store front by looking at the area around them. I wish I had known about them earlier.

The website shows they also do nitrous oxide (medical) so maybe I can get them to fill up my 10# car bottle. That would save me from having to drive all the way to Merchants Drive on a lunch break.

Thanks for the heads up!

What size tank does an Oscar require? I'm moving my Bichir into a 55 gallon, and will soon have a 30 gallon tank available for a resident.

Hmm, Oscars are very cool, but my bigger tank has a school of 20+ Rummy Nose, so I better not attempt that...

For a full grown oscar I'd not go less than 100.

I am the one that submitted Fyr Fyter to Rex Grigg's site... they fill for me anytime they are open, no startup fee, and $10 for 10#. Nice people, accept credit cards, and won't think your nuts if you tell them it is for an aquarium. I got a $15 tank (steel) with gas for $35 bucks too... can't beat that! I used to go to Knoxville Fire Extinguisher, but they were less reliable with filling times. HTH

Anybody have any nice and/or rare crypts here in K-town? I've got a crapton of stem plants and shrimp to trade right now.

If the Oscar is in a 75g, then it is not full grown. Try Fins and Skins, they do big cichlids, and Mike sometimes gives credit.

+1 for taking the Oscar to Fins 'n Skins. I have been in there when a couple was selling fish to him for store credit. From the way it sounded they were breeding them.

As a side note, they moved and changed their filtration system a couple months ago and really cleaned up the back side of the "fish room".
