LOL...it seems we have a lot in common...my 10gal is now crystal clear, warm, & the plants are thriving..but I *only* have about 5 pounds of gravel! If it's not one thing, it's another...but ANYWAYS, WalMart, Atleast, my Walmart(s) sell inert black gravel that'd be just fine for your 20[it'd be visually appealing mixed in the Eco-Complete...as that's the substrate I have in my 10 & love]...just wash it up, take everything [except the fish, water, and gravel] out, add the new gravel, and gravel vac to mix it all up..then, of course put everything back in...

I've decided sine I only have 2 fish & 2 shrimp [UGH!! It's killing me!!], I might as well just do the entire change but you have more it seems, so it might be more difficult...and easier to just mix it in like I described.

Hope this helps!

kENNY

I could not stand the java moss anymore. So moved it out. When I did made the 10 gallon look a little bare so shut it down. Used the plants to set back up my 6 gallon JBJ nano and put the left over substrate in the 20 gallon.
Ill see about some new pictures when the tanks clear.
I put all the java moss in my 30 gallon. Not a planted tank so just letting it float round with my WCMM and the dojo's in that tank.

You could tear it down and put some top soil in as the base then top it with the Eco-complete. At Wall-Mart Scott top soil is $2.

Great idea but using topsoil always become a big mess when I do it. Have tried it 4 different times. I move plants around to much.
What I did was broke down the 10 gallon moved plants to my 6 gallon jbj. Still not enough in the 20 but looks much better.
Can see pictures by clicking on my tanks.

I move plants around a lot to. Basically moved half of the tank around. I just put a HOB filter on afterwards. Sometimes I add bio-clear. It clears up in a day.
