My Low Tech 29...New Pics 8-19-2009

I've had this 29 gallon tank sitting around in my basement for a bit and I really came to hate my 30 breeder. It had good depth but was just too short. So I put down a dusting of peat, a little mineralized soil and a mix of Shultz Aquatic soil and gravel
Equipment
Fluval 303
150 w heater
Lights are just a double strip of T-12's at 20 watts each. 6500 k bulbs
Plants
Anubias coffeefolia
Anubias barteri var. nana ‘Eyes’
Anubias barteri var. caladiifolia ‘1705’
Anubias nana petite
Microsorum sp. narrow leaf
FTS...

I need a new background I know, but I had to get something on there, the few rasboras were getting pissed
Comments?

I like the lay out. You are right you need a new back ground. It is very distracting IMHO
You have a lot of slow growers how do you plan on keeping algae at bay?
Are you using Micro's and Macro's, what about excel?

Thanks Crystalview,
I hate the background but there are a few rasbora's that are in there that were going crazy, so I added the only thing I had and they have calmed down. I will get a black background up soon.
As far as algae goes, its low light I am dosing iron, excel and micro's, maybe 2x/week. If algae becomes a problem I will add otto's or amano's

A good plan to keep algae at bay is to add hornwort, the ultimate nitrate sponge, low light stem plant! It releases chemicals that inhibit algae's growth. IT could easily serve to cover your heater.

Could you get a close up of the livestock?

Anyways, pretty nice tank and nice anubias! Which are anubias 'eyes'? I am thinking of buying some. How big are they? I need to know if I want 6, 9, or another anubias species.

Thanks seds,
The 'eyes' are the plant in the 1st pic, filling the front left side and the 2nd pic with the flowers.
I don't know if I can get pics of the rasbora's they are pretty easily scared. There are only 4 of them, maybe if I add more, they will school a bit more.

I like the anubias. This is a plant I still want to try out, just haven't. I actually didn't mind the background. I thought it actually kind of fit the look. Don't know why, though. I usually hate them.

I really like the layout of that, in particular the mixed sizes of the gravel/substrate looks great. Haven't seen that before but it makes it look far more natural than the usual affair.

You haven't grown anubias yet? Wow, I'm impressed.

I liked the background too.

This tank is really cool. I love that it's just slow growers. I have a nearly crypt only tank and it's great. It's more than three times the size of my Dutch, but it takes a quarter of the time to maintain it.

looks great, I think a plain black background would do fine.

here is an update...this tank has really settled and taken on a life all its own, I don't really do anything, other than a 30% water change every other week...if I remember. I dose Excel maybe once a week, sometimes 2x
I did a complete rescape 2 weeks ago...some plants have decided to float to the top...

FULL TANK...

Left Side...

Right Side...

Other Shots...

Thanks for looking!!!
comments welcome
