amanda's 29g jungle
Well, I decided it was about time I posted a few pics for y'all. This first one will give you an idea of what I'm up against in terms of trimming every week or two...
![]() It's kinda hard to tell from the pic, but the h.polysperma has grown almost right up to the front glass, while the anacharis has grown right up to the glass, and then up and across the top. My poor harlequins had no space left to swim! ...and this is after a trim...

That looks great!! My H. polysperma grows that fast also. Also my Cabombas are so tall they are starting to block some light out. I guess I now realize why H. polysperma is considered a noxious weed!!
I see you use the Hagen ladder, what is your co2 ppm? ps...if anyone else reads this, can you suggest a way to trim my Cabomba? I really like the way the tops of the plants taper to the water and "fray" out, and it would be obvious that if they were trimmed, they would look sort of "chopped" off on top?

Pull out and cut the bottoms off, replant Jason

Great tank Amanda - looks beautiful... I kinda like the overgrown look too as well as the more manicured...

Really great job!
I like the layout and the plant selection. I must be honest, I like the trimmed look much better. Love the Crypt up front, and I think it will look even better when the Sag grows in. What do you have to the right of the Crypt? Mike

Thanks all! I have to admit I was a bit nervous about posting after seeing all th beautiful tanks here. And I agree that it definitely looks better in the "after" shot. Just wanted to show how quickly it grows!

And Mike, that sag is steadily working its way across the front. It started out just in the corners. And that crypt used to look even better -- almost twice as lush. It started to melt a bit a few weeks ago, for no reason that I could tell, and then just as quickly stopped.

You've got a real nice start there. I too like the after pic better. That sag is going to drive you crazy. I had some in my 29 gallon and it was just popping up all over the place in stands of my other plants. I wound up getting rid of it all.

I'm finding the sag is pretty much confined to the front area -- right where I want it. The val, however, keeps popping up all over the place. I'll bet you didn't even know there was val in there, did you? You can't really see it, since it's all towards the back, but there's a pretty good grouping in each back corner. I think I might just get rid of them altogether since they're pretty much hidden behind everything else.

Yeah, the sag might be confined for now, but just wait! lol I've found both sags and vals to be way too invasive for a 29 gallon tank.

Well the sag's been in the tank forever, and in the front corners since the beginning of the year. I did a complete re-aquascape a few months back -- took out everything except the polysperma & the crypt, and rearranged it all to accommodate a 2nd piece of driftwood. Ended up giving a few plants away that I couldn't figure out where to put back in
Thanks for the warning, tho. I'll certainly keep an eye on it.

Really really nice, amanda.
Very similar to what I'm aiming at in my 30g, w/ 10W less and many of the same plants. I've got a patch of sag pretty much center front, and it hasn't given me any problems. Seems to be getting more dense, rather than sending out runners. Will keep my eye out, tho. For all of you who express your preference for the after photo - well, of course. But that gives rise to the question of how often you trim? How long do you let your plants go before trimming them? Hmm. I think I'll post this as a seperate thread over in the general forum. Again, amanda - really nice looking tank.
