It's going to be all shrimp... but lately I've been thinking a school of small fish would be a nice addition, and I'm pretty sure the shrimp population would survive. If I do choose to get some fish in there, they'll probably be a nano-fish of some sort, like a nice sized school of maculata!

Once the tank is established, and when I can finally find someone who has them , I plan on getting a flock of the tiny little Corydoras hastatus as well.

Thanks for the kind words.

I would get 30 or so Borars Merah. Very pretty. I have 4 in my 6 gallon (trying to find more) and I love them.

The cories might eat shrimplets.

Sounds awesome! What species of shrimps?

Glad to see you back in the game Church. I still remember the 10 gal so I cant wait to see what you do here, So far its looking great.

I have some spare XP parts PM me if interested. You can also try here http://www.planetrena.com/

Edit : +1 on the Maculatus/Briggitae, They are so small You really could get away with 30 or 40. Just dont put them in with RCS, I think the colors of the 2 blend in together too much.

Wow, thanks everybody. Reckles, thanks for the warm welcome-back! The intention for this tank is to raise softwater shrimp. I'm going to start with tigers or bees, depending on what presents itself at the right time. But there's a huge part of me that keeps saying "come on, you know you don't want to have a tank without fish in it, you know you want to put fish in there" and so on. But the only way I will do it is if I can guarantee that the shrimp population will not shrink as a result.

A lot of votes for the boraras, I like it!

Have you seen Boraras in person, they can barely eat flakes. LOL

an LFS near me has boraras sp. in a tank with CRS and RCS, i watched for 10 min; the boraras never made an attempt at the shrimp (which were about the same size as the fish themselves, lol).

Awesome! That settles it, then! Boraras it is. So does anyone think that C. hastatus will be able to eliminate an already-established shrimp colony? I don't mind if they pick off a few shrimplets here and there, but genocide would be unacceptable.

nah, probably not the adults but the babies are in danger. they can get into tight places wheere the shrimplets might hide. id get some moss cover for them and add the cories once the shrimp have been established for a month or 2

Basically almost all of the branches are going to have fissidens moss attached. Do you think that will be sufficient? Or should I also try to create a patch of moss carpet somewhere?

Oh by the way, here is a pic I was too lazy to upload last night:

Also, because I am very impressed with how nice this thing looks, here's a pic of my first ever Rena Filstar, the XP2:

your hardscape looks crazy good! I like the baby tears, too. Once you get the other plants and some shrimp, this tank will be rockin.

And while everyone has been making fun of boraras (lol... silly little things.) i actually think a cloud of a whole bunch of them in a big tank instead of only a few in a small tank would look pretty cool!
