not true (sorry, but thats the fact). in fact, getting a higher flow, better filter would help uncluter your tank if you got the right equipment with it.

on my 10 gallon i put an eheim ecco 2232. on that you can put an inline heater such as this one (i dont know if that one actually fits the tubing size, but i have used it on my larger eco, and though the wattage is excessive, it is very acurate and i have used it successfully on my eclipse 6). your hagen bubble lader could also be replaced with an inline CO2 reactor like this one. and the output will allow you to postion outflow however you want and it wouldnt disturbe the surface as much (unless you position it that way) so it wouldnt outgas CO2 as much. and the flow would be greater, with absolutely nothing in your tank except a thermometer, intake and outake, and maybe a heater.

As much as I appreciate your post, I am not willing to put that much money into a 10g tank! This was supposed to be a low-tech tank just to give my Betta somewhere nicer to live. It's not supposed to be a $400 tank!

I have a 75g tank that I will setup with good equipment.

Thanks trigun!

marko, I was thinking about $100 of good lighting too. Small tanks usually cost more per gallon than larger tanks. Arg!

If you haven't gotten rid of the algae you can also try erythromycin as it looks like it could be bacterial.

I think I'm going to try a blackout. My CO2 is running low now, so I will detach it and do a blackout as suggested here:

http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm

I don't know where to get Potassium nitrate locally though. My nitrates are at about 7-10 ppm though.

Is BGA likely to go away on its own? Is it a new tank syndrome? Or should I definately treat it?

Thanks, but that's in the US. I was hoping I could find a local store I can buy it in on Saturday, or at the very least a Canadian distributor.

You get dingged at the border though too.

New lights!!! I installed a couple of clip-on lamps with Philips Daylight 6500K spiral fluoescents. It looks much brighter in person. I will try taking a pic tonight when it's dark to see if I can get a truer photo. You can see the lone Espei schooling with the Harlequins.

I didn't think anyone would notice him missing! He's still in there. There was glare on the right side of the tank, and he happened to be there, so I cut the glare and him out.

Snapped a shot of "Sunny". I have been feeding a lot of Cyclopeeze since I set up this new tank, and "Sunny" is turning "Peachy".
