the hairgrass will spread out much faster and better now. i enjoyed the rotala though so i'm a little disappointed about that. i think you should get some r. macrandra and replace the little roundfolia and b. caroliniana that you put in it's place. i think it will give nice contrast to the cabomba on the opposite side. it should stay fairly red in your tank too. that is, if your nitrates are on the lower side.

Great feedback, thanks. The rotala grows ridiculously fast in this tank, so I give it another week to be quite bushy. I really like the r. macrandra idea. I think I'll look around for some.

Nice this is looking much better after the trim!
i like the moss on the bark, that is pretty cool have you ever tried moss balls? they might look pretty good in there I also reccomend golden apple snails if you have snailitis, they are massive compared to other snails and usually stay on the open ground in my tank also they look great |

Thanks for the input Felix. Unfortunately this is the tank that suffered the DIY CO2 disaster I talked about in this thread. There are still a bunch of snails that survived and most of the plants are still in there. Some hair algae has invaded the java moss at the top of the bogwood and I haven't really had a chance to do much to it.
So far I've just done about 6 or 7 80% water changes and have fallen off the fert schedule, but all of the plants will be fine and will just need a little TLC. Hopefully I'll have some time on Sunday to clean the whole thing out and get it started up again...after the Chargers whoop up on the Patirots As far as the Marimo balls go, I've always thought they looked cool, but maybe a little out of place in this tank. I'll keep it in mind though.

Holy back from the dead, Batman!!!
Actually, I'm planning some major maintenance on this tank tonight. The layout wil stay very similar, but I've neglected the tank since the accident and since only snails are living there now. I'm going to go through tonight, do some water changes, replant some stems of Rotala and Cabomba, and trim the java moss and do some major algae removal. The hairgrass has spread out pretty well since the accident, actually, so I look forward to having a nice, clear tank again. I'm not confident it'll look great when I'm done, simply because there is some hair algae growing in there now that I'm not sure I'll be able to remove completely, but what the heck, I'll post pics anyway My major motivation for getting this back is that my CRS in my 3g just had babies and there are two more batches on the way any day now, so I want to move some of them back home. Thanks for the interest!!

I wanted to post this somewhere but didn't have a good place to, so I decided to post it here.
I obviously didn't get around to cleaning out the tank last month, but I went through it tonight, removed all of the stem plants (left the hairgrass and java moss alone) trimmed it all up, and replanted everything. Anyway, the point of this post is that 2 months after the DIY CO2 disaster, with no food, no heat, no filtration, no water changes, no anything...I found 2 RCS alive in the tank. I thought for sure they had all died, but these two were hanging out on the side of the driftwood. Pretty hard to believe that I could go 2 months without spotting them in only a 10g tank, but I did. Then again, I did a pretty solid job of ignoring this tank for the last 2 months too. They were babies at the time of the accident and are full grown now. So much for shrimp being delicate creatures, huh? Haha. Anyway. Cheers. Will post more pics when the tank grows in a little more and after some baby CRS from my other tank get moved in.
