My immediate first impression (no deep thought here...just quick gut reaction) is ... much better. The first aquascape kinda floated by unnoticed and what you would expect to see from someone who has the plant growing thing down. The second looked - spectactular - nice colors, more balanced, and areas stood out - whereas in the older pic, everything kind of blended together.
Then again......... you know what they say about opinions lol. Michael

Thanks..
I got tired of the jungle look, it had no character. Plants were hidden among each other etc.. The biggest problem were the Hygro Ceylon and Sunset. They are great plants for startup as they are nutrient hogs and help keep algae at bay. But I had to trim every week to keep it neat looking and if I went 2 weeks or more it was a mess. I pulled them and gave them to the LFS in trade for Rosy Reds to feed the Birchirs and Climbing Perchs. I didn't add any plants, just removed, and I think it looks as if there are more plants in this setup. Nice thing is I won't need to trim as often either. This setup while still full lets you see the different plants pretty well. I even noticed my Clown Loaches are out and about more today. |

Nice tanks!
Off topic slightly....what fish are you keeping with the Fancy Goldie? I'm asking 'cos I'm just setting up a planted 70 gallon tank (moving up from my smaller planted scape) and I'd like to have some other fish in with my two fancies, but am not sure who they would get on with |

I'm doing the big no no in this tank, that is I'm doing what is preached against. Goldfish with tropicals. Though Fancies can take higher temps then most goldfish it is still frowned upon.
The tank has: The Fancytail Goldfish 13 fancytail Guppies 1 Male betta 2 Black Skirt tetras 1 danio 4 ottos 6 Brig snails a host of Red Ramhorns Temp sits pretty steady between 76-78 |

The scape has changed a little but my question has more to do with the foreground.
I was thinking of pulling all the dwarf sag/e.tellenus from the 75 gallon in the front and filling it in with some crypts that for some reason hug the bottom of the 55 gallon tank. They are full looking but grow low and out and not up. Do you think this will look good or will the crypts end up blocking the front of the glass?

First thought: "oh my... what a HUGE goldfish... how old is that thing? are mine going to get that big?... oh right, plants... yup, does that goldfish eat the plants? Bet it gets a treats when one of those guppies has babies... silly distracting goldfish"
Now, I must say, your tanks look wonderful. I can only dream of making plants grow that well, in such a beautiful way!!
