jasonh's 29 gal (56k warning) update 10-27-06

It's been a while since I last updated....wow, things have changed.

Let's see....Ditched the Endler's and got 6 Kribs, two of which paired up and layed some eggs in a cave they made under the big rock, but they ate them. 3 Endlers do remain, because we couldn't catch them

After a little neglect due to a busy schedule and other things getting in the way, the tank was thrown into BBA hell. So not fun. I picked up the last two SAE's from the LFS and got a big bottle of Excel and got to work. I've been doing 2-3x doses every day, and the BBA subsided real quick. Not only that, but the Excel coupled with my new CO2 diffusion method (see the big ugly powerhead in the tank) gave me an explosion in growth, and I've had to dose N and P every single day now to keep up. Go figure. I'm almost out of Flourish, so I think it's time to order from gregwatson.com. I like using the fleet enema for dosing P, but the Grant's stump remover for N is lame. It has to be dissolved in hot water and dosed that way, because dosing dry makes it take a full day to dissolve....I don't want that stuff hanging around my tank all day.

Because of the BBA, a lot of the plants looked real ratty...so I didn't remove the affected leaves. I wanted to keep the plant mass up in the tank...so I let it grow out, and today I did a nice trim and got rid of all the bad looking leaves.

I also gave riccia a whirl, and didn't like the way it was looking so I removed it. Maybe I'll try it again in the future. For now I'll put it on the list with the glosso

I wish I would have taken a pic when the tank was at it's worst. Oh well.

Before trim today:

After trim (still a little cloudy from stirring things up):
