No, I definitely don't want to go with a sponge filter or a corner filter. I want to be able to add Purigen so a sponge is out, and corner filters take up too much space in the tank plus are a pain to clean. I want as much equipment outside of the tank as possible. My first choice would be a canister filter if I can find one appropriately scaled for a 10gal, and an HOB is a possibility if not...

No feedback at all on the Hydor Prime canister filters?

Yeah, I saw that one - only 3 posts, with mixed reviews.

I ran across this thread on an Asian forum after quite a bit of searching- the reviews there are largely positive, BUT it looks like the intake on the Prime 10 is much too long for a 10gal tank, and is not easily modded, so it's out. http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=42975

I'm thinking about an XP1 now...

I currently have AquaClear HOBs on 9 of my planted tanks (10-90 gallon) and like the ease of cleaning and setting up with any media I need and the low profile in the smaller tanks. I use a sponge on the intake in my shrimp tanks with media bags over the sponges (coarse sponges allow shrimp babies into filter).

I have just ordered one of these to try for my 15 gallon CO2 tank:

Well although you bought something. I'm going with the AquaClear Series. So much better than the whisper I think. ( I have nightmares about Whisper )

aquaclear very clean and easy maintenance. A lot better flow and Easy to detect when needs a cleaning. Only prob I've ever had was electrical. Sometimes when doing maintenance on the tank I would shut off the filter and then I would plug it in and it would not turn on. I found out that this was do to a clogged filter and being very dirty!

I have this on my 10g CRS/BD tank. The flow rate goes down sharply if you don't clean it every other week or so and the tubes are crap, but besides that I like it a lot.

I still need to change to tubing...

Definitely. I already have the ZooMed 501 sponge.

I like AquaClear HOBs quite a bit, I own a 110 and a 50. Only issue I have is snails are REALLY bad about getting into my impellers (even with the sponge prefilters, they still manage ) and that gets noisy. I'm actually considering replacing my 110 with a canister only for that issue...

I have the Hydor canisters. Love them. super quite. Self priming. Easy to set up. The hoses are super pliable/not stiff, and they have rotating intake and out-takes so that way you arent risking anythig popping off when trying to bend the hoses which-ever way. Also, they way the tubing goes into the filter is genius, how its in different parts so when you clean it, you can simply close the valve and unscrew it, and leave them hanging there while you take the filter somewhere else. The inline heater is a nice accessory for it, but it almost costs just as much as the heater itself. You could always go with any submersible heater though. I love my Hydor Canister though.

Great feedback, thanks!

I might consider one on a future (deeper) tank.
