I went to my LFS today and saw a pretty neat looking shrimp. So I picked it up, He's pretty big he's about 3". He was under the name of Mantis Shrimp. Can someone correct this?....What kind of shrimp is this? He's awesome though....I like him..... He is a filter feeder....nice one though...PICTURES BELOW....

Also known as the Asian Filter Shrimp, Flower Shrimp, Wood Shrimp and Fan Shrimp among it's many common names, the scientific name is Atyopsis moluccensis

They are great I have one in my display tank and it is always great fun to try and find it as it tries to hide all over the tank.

HAHA
you found that at whities!!!
i saw those when i was there earlier this week.
they are definetly mislabeled. mantis shrimp is a powerful predatory saltwater shrimp.

i have 2 of those bamboo shrimp in my 55 gal. i found some SAE there in a tank almost directly across from where those shrimp were... check em out.

from what ive read (and from what ive seen) while they are young they have a real appetite for algae but once they grow older they lose their appetite for algae and become aggressive. the ones i got are very small. il keep them as long as they keep my tank clear of hair algae and dont present a problem.

those shrimp were massive. i started reading your thread and i stopped.. i just knew. i laughed when i looked at the location. cool
