Default What is going on...

One of my Cardinal Shrimp was looking odd today so I took a photo and this is what her problem is...

From what I have seen of Cardinal Shrimp eggs they are dark and look nothing like this... Anyone care to comment? I have never seen anything like this on a shrimp.

Bill

Hi All,

Got it pretty well nailed down by Mustafa at Pet Shrimp and it is likely an external parasite. The shrimp has been moved to a separate tank for now and I guess I'll just wait and see what happens...

Cheers, Bill

Yeah i think it looks like one of those rare parasites you usually don't see in the trade. being that they're imports explains it. I doubt its life threatening.

Whats that website with most of them on it..... Can't think of the name at the moment......

Ps. I was looking and found something kinda funny, google freshwater dwarf shrimp and look to the right RARE FW DWARF SHRIMP FS!!

Looks like a underwater plant. Probably the same stuff that grows on stationary objects. I have a couple of these sulawesi and they seem fairly stationary. Nonetheless isolating is a good idea.

Hi All,

It is not a plant per say but a fungus and here is more information...

http://www.shrimp-diseases-online.com/watermold.htm

The shrimp in question shows no real ill effects as yet and here is a photo..

Cheers, Bill

Howdy Arnold,

My eyes are no longer sharp at 52, but I indeed do have a magnifying glass close to hand. Still with that it was difficult to see clearly enough to have a clue it was anything but greenish. So I got out the camera and took a good close up so I could see what the heck it was.

Cheers, Bill

Well you found the link I was looking for. Google would NOT help me that day.
Quote:
In the above described cases the mushroom spores had an optimal contact surface due to transportation stress and therefore arisen injuries and weakening of the immune system. An infestation with Achlya and Saprolegnial can be handled with CILEX by Brustmann and with Fungol by JBL with the indicated dose of the manufacturer. Often it is reported that the animals with the above described symptoms have not showed visible infestation anymore at the next day. This is because of the slough of the shrimps where all visible spores are stripped of with the old skin. Thus many holders think that the problem has finished itself by itself but, however, this is a fatal error.
Have you been able to find any medications?

I would also add some garlic in that tank
