Its a very small fish food for fish fry. (say that ten times fast :hihi)
It should work fine, but may not be the best choice of food because it may not all be eaten and be wasteful. But it should be similar to the fine powder of the Shikira. -Andrew |

Hi phanizzle,
I asked the same question on another forum. I was told that the golden pearls stay suspended in the water column. They are mainly used for filter feeding shrimp and shrimp that are in the larval stage. I was also leery of the cost of the Shirakura but it has been well worth the cost. The powder should last a long time if you feed the shrimp a varied diet. In some of my smaller tanks I will cut the Shirakura wafers into smaller pieces because one wafer is too much for a small colony.

I have some, but I would never put it in a shrimp tank. The whole point of pearls is they stay in the water column loger and that's good for fish fry because most of the food gets consumed. However with shrimp you want the food to sink to the bottom so putting in food made to float won't help.
As far as cost for shirakura I found that it's the cheapest food you can buy. I purchased a large container for $20 about 2 years ago and i'm not even half way done with the food. I figure at the rate i'm going the bag will last me at least 10 years so it's going to cost about $2.00 a year. I also have around 60-80 shrimp in my tank so if you had half that many shrimp you could feed them shirakura for about $1.00 a year! |
