Default Going shrimp...

Well I am going to be turning my planted tank into a shrimp heaven. Thanks to my upcoming purchase with ryan.

Here is what I plan on stocking:

CRS
CBS
Blue Tiger
Dark Green
Yellows.

Could I keep my Betta in the tank? He doesn't bother any of the other fishes and I really like him. I figure he may eat a few baby shrimp from time to time. Also my tank is open top with manzanita protruding out the top is there much risk for jumpers? Sorry for all the questions.

I've heard some bettas devour shrimp, some totally ignore them; I'd experiment with some cheaper RCS before putting him in with your more expensive ones.

I've also heard some reports of shrimp jumping off of driftwood/cords/etc, but I think it's the exception to the rule?

High Co2 or bad water conditions will send the shrimp jumping too.

As Laura said some bettas will bother them and some will ignore them but I think they should leave the adults alone and they can climb on the wood and perhaps die. I've seen my shrimps climb on my tube for my diy co2.

- Hope those shrimps aren't going to be in the same tank. Esp the CRS/CBS with the tigers. They will interbreed.

After some work with Ryan here is what we came up with as a mix:

Yellows
CRS
CBS
Dark Greens
Slender Blues

As soon as I get confirmation from Ryan I will be submitting my order and will have them in about 5 weeks.

I would definitely not put bettas in with those shrimp. If you're lucky, it will ignore the adults and just eat shrimplets. If not, it will eat or try to eat the adults.

You have a very expensive stock list. I'd only try a betta with RCS.

Yeah, I may setup a small nano tank for the bettas and a few yellows.

Going with shrimp in a heavily planted tank what does everyone use for there fertilizer routine? I currently use EI but wondering if I shouldn't switch to PPS Pro or Classic?

Article I did about dosing ferts with shrimp:

http://www.planetinverts.com/Dosing%...%20Shrimp.html

Most definitely do not put a betta in there. He will gobble them up like they are snicker bars.

Yeah, I've already decided to rehome the betta. Thanks for the link to that. What is the kent Pro plant consist of? I do have alot of demanding plants in this tank and would like to dose similar too what you were doing. I will be starting with soe yellows next week to get all trained up as to behaviors and dosing. Thanks for that page of information.

AHHH.. I can't decide. Hopefully Ryan will get back to me as I think I am going to go with just 2 species of shrimp. Thinking of Yellows for my neocardina and the Sulawesi Tan and Blues for my Cardina species. I have alot of red, green and purple plants so I think these guys would show off the best.

Finally got my shrimp list figured out. Going with the following list:

20 Yellows NeoCardina
20 Solawesi Tan and Blue Cardina

I may eventually add another species if I can find a compatible one. Also what would be a good snail species to add? Ramshorns?
