Question

Strange Red Cherry Shrimp Deaths

I've had red cherry shrimp since the beginning of June, when I got them as babies. They have not been breeding yet, and only 12 out of the original 18 are still alive. Only female shrimp have died in my tank so far. Lately, I have had one shrimp die every few days. The tank is a RCS only tank. I bought some more plants recently, and then snails appeared in my tank, and they keep laying eggs, but my shrimp keep dropping every single egg and have not been berried yet. I do not know my water parameters except for pH, which is around 7.4-7.6 . Any thoughts on this? It is really troubling to me.

Yes, you need to know your parameters. Get a test kit ASAP and report the parameters here.

Yesterday, I took out my rocks and put in this new piece of driftwood I bought. I looked at the tank this morning, and hiding in a knot on the driftwood was a berried red cherry shrimp! I hope I have some more luck

driftwood is better than rocks, it lowers PH a little bit.
