Hey, try Frank and Pegs at 6211 S Blvd in Charlotte (on the south side). Great people, seem knowledgeable...and if they ain't got it, they'll sure try to get it (first-hand experience).

Well I made the trip today and found some good stuff. At Tropical fish I got 3 Cherry shrimp (one is a pregnant) and a very nice large bunch of Rotala macrandra. TF is a small shop but nice with a lot of baby fish for sell. Then I headed to Fish World in Raleigh where I bought 4 Rio Von tetras to go with the 4 orange rio tetras I already have. I also bought a red rubin or red melon sword (can't remember which one) and a shrimp called a Golden whisker shrimp (PG ever heard of this shrimp?). FW is a large well kept store with very clean tanks, healthy fish and great prices. Thanks to all that recommended these stores.

Sounds like you had a great fish store trip! I haven't heard of that shrimp, Trenac, but in the shrimp world as opposed to the fish world many of the names are just made up by the importers/exporters. So, it is really hard to know what shrimp are what.

Yay! Man I've been wanting to pick up some cherries. Pregnant female, how cool!

Btw, I found out there's some restraunt called Margot's (I think, I"m gonna have to check the name again) but anyways, they have a 600 gallon cichlid tank! How cool is that! The friend telling me about it said that he sees little fry swimming around in there all the time.

That sounds like a cool resturant. Mama dips was very good. I hate to say that I lost one of my cherrys; but I'm going back to get some more for my other tank.

Thumbs up

Neil Frank (a plant guru) lives in the triangle area. He sells wonderful plant cuttings several times a month on no ebay links allowed He doesn't allow visitors for retail sales, but is very helpful via email contract. Do a search for seller "Riccia". He will work with you if your don't see the particular plants that you want. I have purchased from him twice and the plants were far better (and cheaper) than anything I have seen in my endless search of local pet stores.

Gmoney, I suggest you join Raleigh Aquarium Society and stock up at the annual auction. You won't find any better! It's the last weekend in February every year and a whole lotta fun. I can't wait!!!

I know, I know...I need to join. I just can't ever make it to the meetings (work in Fayetteville). I went to the auction last year, but my tank wasn't set up yet. I drooled over all of the great stuff. My wife had to drag me out of there. I am planning on going this year again, but muuuuaahhhahahaa, this time I am buying stuff!!! My wife thought she was bored last year. We're stayin for the whole thing this year.

(I joke about my wife not liking this stuff, but she's turned into just as big of an aquarium geek over the last year )

Oh I'm so glad that you'll be there! Nice you have a supportive wife too.

I'm sure you'll see me, I'm the part Asian short person wandering around -- most likely drooling over shrimp.

I am getting excited about the auction. Ever since my discus loss I have been thinking about replacements. There were such great fish at the auction last year that I know I should wait, but it's gonna be sooooooo hard to wait.

I know that there were great deals on discus last year, but I can't remember if there were many angelfish. Does anyone know if there are typically nice angelfish at the auction? (I am trying to decide whether to replace my discus with angels or more discus)
