LFS: Aquarium Center, Clementon NJ

Aquarium Center
Commerce Plaza II
1295-97 Blackwood-Clementon Rd.
Clementon, NJ 08021

Aquarium Center is probably my favorite of the fish stores. Huge selection of all types of fish (you want Congo Tetra's? Which type?). More tanks dedicated to plants than most stores have for fish and not just the staples of the LFS. Great dry goods selection too. AC offers a discount on all items purchased in support of another, for example, if you buy a light fixture, you save 20% on bulbs any time in the future.

The fish are always in good health. AC doesn't sell painted glassfish.

From 1 (low) to 5 (high), 3 being average:

Selection (livestock)
Tropical fish: 4.5
Salt Fish: 4
Plants: 4.5
Cichlids: 4
Corals: 4

Quality (livestock)
Tropical Fish: 4
Salt Fish: 4
Plants: 4.5 (they've had the same lace plant in a top corner tank for goodness knows how long, they must be doing something right)
Cichlids: 4.5
Corals: 4

Selection (dry goods)
Tanks: 4
Filters and refills: 4
Foods: 4
Additives/dosing: 4
Lighting: 4 (They have all different types at some good prices)
Specialty Items: 4 (not alot of doo-dads but if you're looking for something like a Tunze power head, you'll find it there)

Overall: 4.5

I decided to take a roadtrip to this store after reading Chupacabras review. I ended up with a pair of rams. I couldn't pass them up as they were the prettiest I had seen in a shop. Locally bred. I also ended up with a new tank to house them. I was lucky I didn't end up with any discus as there were some real beauties there.

Nice shop with a good selection of healthy looking stock. Thanks.

Anytime, Shay.

I was drooling over those rams yesterday. If I didn't already have kribs in my planted tank I'd have snatched them right up... probably end up doing what you did and set up a peaceful bedroom tank for a set of them, just too pretty to pass on.

Chucabras, would a little peer pressure help? Go get 'em. They said that they don't get them in from that breeder on a regular basis.

Just have to decide the total picture for the tank first... that and get the right size tank for the equipment I have on hand .

Peer pressure never hurts though Shay.

George and I took a ride last weekend.

Nice clean shop. Lots of dry goods at pretty good prices. Nice selection of plants at pretty good prices. Pretty good selection of fish, real nice selection of Rainbows. I was disappointed the Tetra selection was as poor as it was. Overall the fish selection was limited in comparison to what I can get up here, but the prices on the fish were really low. Threadfins were what, $3 or $4 a piece. Furcatas were $4! Those are $9 and $12 fish up here.

I would say this is a nice shop. Clean and pretty well stocked. Good selection and prices. It was a two hour drive for us. I'd go again!

I really liked this shop. Any shop that stocks more than 10 different varieties of rainbows at once is good in my book! Like Mike said, tetra selection was weak, but Rainbow selection was the best I've seen in this area. Prices beat anything you can find in north NJ. Seemed to me as though they stocked quite a few hard to find/rare crypts.

They have long fin blue rams the only problem is that they also have A. borellii "opal". I didn't know how nice they looked till I saw them. I now have 6 or each in a 20 gal quarantine tank and they don't seem to mind each other.

Gee, I need a bigger tank.
