Good start Jake. I think with 2 pairs of Rams, you're asking for trouble. From my experience, male rams are pretty agressive towards one another. Not so much towards females. It depends on the fish sometimes. I kept 6 juvi GBRs together in my tank and as they matured, they had persistant dominance issues. I ended up giving 3 of them away after 1 died due to bullying.
Good luck and have fun man. |

I think you will be surprised by how big and robust the Amano shrimp are if you haven't seen any yet. I know I was. THEY ARE BIG, as shrimp go anyway. You might be good with the GBRs and Amanos. Not to say that this is the norm but I have successfully kept GBRs with significantly smaller ghost shrimp. But ghost shrimp IMO do not compare to the algae busting power of Amanos.
+1 on speedie's advice with GBRs. Though some have reported success with lots of vertical elements to break up sight-lines and for the establishment of territories. I have not had success with more than one pair and I have had GBRs in my tanks on several occasions. Great choice for a schooling fish. Rummies will make a very nice school in this tank. Do you mean that the breeder or fish distributor inject hormones to their rams to brighten up their colours before they supply to LFS?

![]() edit: oh yeah baby...game on. Lots of rams at Fairy Lake, big and small. He wants $35 a pair for the larger ones though, maybe I'll get some youngins. I went by Lucky Ocean afterward to see what Steve had around. Got the last 8 rummy nose he had, and two Albino Bushynose babies, one is a LONG FIN!

8 rummies sounds good. Super tight school & great display! 8 (maybe a few more) rummies, a couple nice bushynose, and a pair of GBRs will make a sweet set-up. I'm kind of jealous, LOL.
Throw in some otocinclus(4-5), a small school of pygmy cories(6) and some Amanos(5-10) and your set-up will be a fairly complete and functional ecosystem. |

Bherren - thanks man I am REALLY liking the stock list, good to hear others are also. Probably looking at around 15 rummy nose planned. I was def. planning on otos but hadn't considered corys maybe I should think about that.
Speedie - Oh he'll have the rams, there are a ton of them there and def some plumpers. I didn't get mine yet, I don't want to move them over to the new tank after only a week or so in the old. Yeah I think I'm gonna go to the meet, as long as my work schedule doesn't change.

You can have 2 pairs of rams with places to hide in planted.
Rams without hormones will be tough to sex on the small side. Not enough color, but the ideal way to go. |

Jake,
Happy Thanksgiving! Your rummies look sweet! They are by far my favorite schooling fish. I think adding 7-8 more would be cool. I mentioned the pygmy cories for 2 reasons. 1.They will help keep your PFS cleaner by eating the small bits of food that make it past your other fish. 2. They are smaller, usually an inch or less, than the regular sized ones which can grow to 3 inches. The pygmies still perform the same function as the regular ones but add less to your bio-load. If you are really interested and can't find them in your LFS Invertz Factory has them for $1.60 each and shipping is only $15. |
