jade plants

hey, anyone ever have any luck putting jade plants in a terrarium?

How big is the terrarium? I think they are pretty slow growers, but I have a jade that is about 2.5' tall and about 3' across.

I have experience with them outside. They're pretty hardy and if you over water, it's not too big of a deal but don't do that too often. Put them in soil that drains well. I have a plant that same size as jason.

Has anybody made a jade plant bonsai?

tank is a 37H so its 30x13x34" i have a waterfall area and I think I will put the plant in a clay pot and keep it on that side so it stays humid, but not wet...
??????

The pothos will be fine, but the jade - bad idea! I grow a lot of succulents, and jades are adapted to a very dry environment. They would not respond well to the very high humidity and most likely would succumb pretty quickly. Just like a fern would not survive in a desert, these would not survive in a very humid area.

Actually ive been using jade plants in bottle garden terrariums for a long time and they do pretty good! Also I've root jade in water and just left them in water for well over a year and they adapt fine! They can take a lot of over and underwating and I think they would do just fine in your terrarium.

In my experience (mostly terrestrial) Jade is almost impossible to kill wherever you put it... have a go, it grows easily from a cutting so it wont cost anything

Yep! I have one. I'll try to get a picture of it in the next few days.

To be honest, it's more of a baby jade than a full-blown bonsai that was carefully planned and trimmed. Started it from a pinched leaf from my big jade plant, and it has taken over two years to reach a height of 3 inches. It's in a tiny (~1.5 inch diameter) bonsai pot.

F22 - you could try growing some crypts emersed. I've had good luck with C. beckettii. You might be able to get away with some air plants as long as they're above the waterline and have good air circulation. They need some humidity but also the chance to dry a bit so they don't rot.

I have a boatload of jade plants. Including some grown in hydroponic media with water submersion to the crown, then letting subside to 50% and repeat. They do great.
