Replacing an Eclipse hood

Someone gave me a 30T acrylic tank with an Eclipse hood. However, the filter gave me problems; several times the filter compartment overflowed an dumped at least a gallon onto the carpet before I noticed. There is no way to lessen the flow, so I had to shut down the filter. Soon after, bad problems developed with the water chemistry, so today I bought an old standby, a Whisper filter that hangs on the back. The problem is, now the hood no longer fits! In any case, I want to increase the light to the tank - right now I can only give my plants 1 watt per gallon.

Bearing in mind it's an acrylic tank, I am soliciting suggestions. What cover should the tank have, and what type of light? I know to use fluorescent lighting, the heat from incandescents would harm the tank. I would like to achieve 60 watts total, would settle for 45. Money *is* a problem.
Thanks in advance for any serious advice.

Well if you are handy with your hands you can build an enclosure and put an AH Supply www.ahsupply.com 55 watt kit in there and you will be set for light.

Handy with my hands never did describe me, even before I got MS symptoms. DIY is not a prospect I would relish, esp. with electricity involved! The results would probably be shocking ;-)

Check out an enclosure and kit from AH Supply. Then pay one of the neighborhood kids a couple of bucks to install the kit.
